23 week visit

jack and i headed to the doctor today. i usually go alone, but decided to take him with me this time. he loves to go bye-byes and kept saying "mommy, get ready, go bye-byes" all day!! i kept reminding him that we were going to my dr. and that we would hear the baby's heartbeat. he was so well behaved, but once the nurse came to get us, he immediately got a bit nervous. he was so upset when i had my blood pressure taken, and then again when we went into the room, i think he thinks they might hurt me...he's already my little protector:) my dr. was nice enough to let me stand while she listened to the heartbeat because jack was not having it with me lying down. as soon as we found it, he had this look of both awe and confusion on his face. i know he doesn't really understand, but i love that i can include him in the process.

on another note, all looks good, but because jack was considered not to be of gestational age at birth--his weight was off by a couple ounces--i'll have growth scans at both 32 & 36 weeks. i'm confident all is ok, but will happily go along with the added precautions.

it's a...

surprise?! haha:) we decided not to find out the gender this time. while it is driving both mike and i crazy that everyone at my practice knows the gender, we decided it would be an awesome surprise to wait it out. in the meantime, i have my hunch, but only time will tell;)

it is hard to believe that i am halfway done with this pregnancy, but low and behold i am! in comparison to my pregnancy with jack, this one is by far very different. this time around i was very nauseous, sick & extremely exhausted throughout the first trimester. while i had major food aversions with jack, i don't seem to this time. however, indigestion and reflux were lovely side effects of both! thankfully around 14 weeks i started to feel better and gain my energy back--an absolute must considering i have a very active 22 month old to chase around after!

we had our "big" ultrasound this week, and it was so amazing. i'm not sure if it was because mike and i are experienced now (ha, so we think) or if the baby was just more cooperative, but we could see so many more features than i remember seeing with jack. i've been feeling this baby since about 16 weeks, and if his/her activity is any indication of personality, we're in trouble!? this baby is so active, and is really throwing some punches...literally, we saw he/she punch me numerous times during the ultrasound!

below are two pictures, quality isn't great, but the top one is jack's and the below is baby "t". when we got home i immediately compared the two, and was amazed at the profile similarities, they look almost identical to me...it is so fun to daydream about what this little one is going to look like!
